McCall Smith is now well known for his very successful series of novels for adults ('The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency') but he has long been a writer of books for children. This reissued story tells how a crocodile man called John comes to visit Akimbo's family and how Akimbo accompanies John on an expedition to tag crocodiles. During the course of the story Akimbo learns about crocodiles and even helps rescue John from being killed. The pace of the story, though gentle, always keeps the reader's or listener's attention. The book would be a welcome addition to the library or home. Also available - Akimbo and the Lions, 1 4052 1812 6, and Akimbo and the Elephants, 1 4052 1811 8.
