Despite being deterred by the cover claim 'full of riotously funny antics', it's worth persevering with 'Fingers Finnigan'. Berlie Doherty can write believable kids' dialogue, a rare talent, and has produced here an amusing and interesting story for strictly junior age readers. Several of the characters have the potential for development in further stories, particularly Weird George and Fingers. Besides which, anyone who knows about soggy Liverpool Echoes and chip butties can't go wrong!
